Can you see here how you can achieve exquisite images by avoiding the "Say cheese" style of photography? Not all pictures should have someone smiling into the lens! Go ahead and take a few "smilers," if it will make you happy, but then - please - go for a few additional shots with a stern look, or a sad look, or a thoughtful look, or a frightened look, or a surprised look, or a sexy look, or a .... Are you beginning to get the idea now? Good! Now go make some great photographs!

Also, as you can see, natural light was used beautifully, but I assure you that the photographer also used a reflector and/or a strobe to reduce the contrast between the highlighted and shadow portions of the face (& body). Notice how the outside (shown through the window) is washed out and thrown out of focus (creative depth of field). Start noticing these things in every picture you see.
